The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two alleged con artists, Ajit Kumar Patra and Minku Lal Jain, who were running a scam involving impersonation of senior government officials and private individuals. Officials disclosed this information on Wednesday.
Patra, in collaboration with Jain, posed as high-ranking officials from various government departments, ministries, enforcement agencies, and judicial institutions to deceive individuals.
Details of the Investigation
A spokesperson for the CBI stated that the duo utilized false identities to unlawfully gain benefits and accepted bribes. The investigation revealed that the suspects frequently claimed to have close ties with senior government officials and used their names to intimidate victims.
The agency accused Patra and Jain of misrepresenting themselves as agents of central agencies and enforcement officials, allowing them to enjoy undue VIP privileges, reside in government accommodations, and access restricted high-security areas during public events and religious ceremonies.
Raids and Arrests
The spokesperson further mentioned that the Goods and Services Tax Intelligence Directorate (DGGI) in Jaipur conducted a raid on November 4 at the premises of Vinod Parihar, CEO of Cyberdior Network Private Limited.
To evade arrest, Parihar allegedly contacted the accused, who demanded ₹1.8 million to resolve the matter with unidentified DGGI officials in Jaipur, and the amount was reportedly received.
The CBI arrested both individuals when Jagjit Singh Gill, sent by Parihar, delivered the alleged bribe. According to the statement, ₹1.8 million was recovered from them, along with ₹37 million in cash, nearly one kilogram of gold jewelry, 26 property documents in the names of Patra and his relatives, and four luxury vehicles.
Additionally, during searches at various locations in Delhi, Rajasthan, and Odisha, 12 other vehicles and digital devices containing incriminating material were seized.
